Taking Interest in the WorkEven though most people were there to socialize, there was also a separate crowd that actually took interest in the art. In one of the art stores, I watched a woman buy some magnets that an artist who also happened to own the store had created. In a gallery, I heard a male artist describe to a woman how he created his series of paintings while she diligently listened and asked questions. In another gallery, I observed a conversation between a male and a female artist.
After the man had walked through the gallery and observed all the work, he stated, “I love it! It makes my brain sparkle and pop. It’s all got so much life to it.” “Do you paint?” she asked. “I used to but it was a mess.” he replied. This conversation could represent that the majority of people interested in the work have a background in art themselves, but I would need to further my research in order to prove this theory. All in all, there were still people that took interest in the art aspect of this event by discussing it with the artists or buying their work. |
